How Not To Overspend When You Buy Wall Foam

Spray wall insulation also known as spray foam insulation is mainly done with the aid of two particular types of spray foams. This is open cell (polyurethane) and closed cell (isocyannurate). An open cell foam is porous, while its counterpart is not. The closed cell has greater R-Value (term for describing thermal resistance), making wall foam that it forms to prevent formation of mold, which can lead to ill-health.

So how will the insulation work in protecting your home from temperature loss or gain? First, the foam used is applied with the help of a spray gun to fill cracks or spaces in the walls of your home. Once these are filled, air flow out is reduced and loss of cold air or heat is minimized to as much as 10% and even lesser. That is spray wall insulation or even the other insulation types seek to retain temperature in your property.

The foam used in this process is a liquid made from two substances, namely: polymer like isocyanurate and a foaming agent, which makes it swell to nearly a 100 times its previous volume when this is added. As it expands it fills every space or gap that it encounters creating wall foam that compensates for these exit points.

This insulation has a number of benefits in addition to the one stated earlier. First, your home will be more comfortable because there is regular room temperature; secondly, this insulation will add a non-sagging permanent structure to your house.

Another benefit is that the additional fixture will give strength to your home property. In addition to this, it will also lead to a reduction in your energy bill as the sum you will now pay would have reduced considerably because you now make use of less energy.

Speaking about cost, this type of insulation is not as cheap as other types of insulation. Installed charge for sprayed wall foam installation begins from say $1.25 to about $2.25 per square foot. Cost depends on thickness of wall and foam type.

Spray wall insulation can be easy only if you have the required knowledge and skill set and this should not be taken for granted if you want a good job to be done.

A lot of sprayed wall foams do not contain HCFCs that can deplete the ozone layer and are, therefore, environmentally friendly. Notwithstanding this, you need to be sure of the type of chemicals to be used in doing your insulation before permitting same.
