Photovoltaics And Their Part In The Advancement Of Solar Energy

Solar energy is one of the most abundant forms of renewable energy available to the world. Photovoltaic cells are used to convert the energy from the sun into electric power. This is done by a process called the photovoltaic effect. Continue reading and learn about photovoltaics and their role in the future of renewable energy.

Solar technology can be characterized by the way that it is captured. The solar radiation is either captured passively or actively. A passive solar capture would be when sunlight is converted without using any form of mechanical device, such as a solarium. While an active solar capture would be a conversion using either mechanical or electrical equipment. In both passive and active capture of solar energy, photovoltaic cells can be used.

The photovoltaic effect is best described as a material being subjected to electromagnetic radiation. Voltage is created with the charged material. Alexandre-Edmond Becquerel was the first to notice this effect in 1839.

In one year, the amount of solar energy that falls to the surface of the earth is so enormous that it will surpass by double the amount of non-renewable energy sources of coal, oil, natural gas, and mined uranium on the earth. The levels of solar power that can be captured in the world are different, depending on the area that it is being captured in. Areas closer to the equator will capture more solar power.

The first application for the photovoltaic was its use in powering orbiting satellites and spacecraft. Now they are used most often for power generation in grid connections. A photovoltaic module (solar cell) is made up of many photovoltaic cells and the modules produce direct current (DC) which must then be converted to alternating current (AC).

Initially it was expensive to try and install a photovoltaic system, however, there are new governmental incentives in several different countries encouraging its use. Recent events have proven that now more than ever, it is time to change to renewable energy. Panels have become much less expensive to produce and install in recent years aside from incentives.

Photovoltaic cells were initially used as power for devices like personal calculators, and other types of personal gadgets, but there is now testing for solar roadways. In existence at present are solar parking meters, street lights, emergency phones, and power stations in parts of the world. As the need for renewable energy grows, photovoltaic use will increase in the number of items that are seen every day.

Photovoltaic cells are used to take the energy coming from the sun and convert them into electric power. If you want it to be done right, then you should get a PV installer to do it for you.
