Simple Tips For Conserving Energy at Home

Conserving energy is on everyone’s mind today. It is imperative that we conserve natural resources as much as possible. The majority of people can’t make drastic changes such as completely remodeling their homes to make it more energy efficient but there are things that you can do to help conserve energy on a daily basis.

Simple tips for conserving energy at home:

  • When it’s time to replace appliances such as the refrigerator or washer and dryer buy the products that are designed to be energy efficient. In the meantime, keep your refrigerator set around 37 degrees and wash clothes with cold or warm water instead of hot.
  • Set the thermostat on your water heater at 120 degrees and make sure it is well insulated.
  • Take steps to winterize your home by sealing cracks with caulk and weather stripping. Make sure your home is properly insulated.
  • Avoid turning the heat up too high in the winter or keeping your home too cold in the summer. Try to set the thermostat somewhere around 70 degrees and leaving it there. Close off rooms that are not being used to help conserve energy.
  • Keep air filters clean and replace them often. This prevents the unit from overworking and reduces the energy it uses.
  • Replace all the light bulbs in your home with the energy efficient florescent light bulbs.

There are many ways that you can pitch in and do your part without spending a small fortune. Even the smallest change can make a big difference and help save on the earth’s natural resources.
