There are two general reason that you might want to get solar panels for you home. One is financial, and the other is environmental. Actually though most people will be interested in getting both of those benefits. It doesn’t really matter why you want them though, you will be getting advantages in both areas.
Financial Advantages
The great thing about renewable energy is that it promises free energy production for your home. You don’t have to pay anything for it! At a time when the costs of conventional energy are steadily rising, this can be very valuable.
To say that it won’t cost you anything is a bit of a stretch though of course, because that is to ignore the relatively substantial solar installation costs. It is true to say though that you’ll be making savings every year, and eventually those costs will be paid off.
In fact now you will be doing more than simply making savings on energy bills. You will actually be getting money directly from the energy that you produce. That’s if you sign up to the feed in tariff scheme which was introduced by the government to pay money for renewable energy production.
How much money each installation will generate will come down to a variety of factors, one of the main ones being how many solar panels you get installed. The average amount that is made every year, however, comes to about one thousand pounds, so it won’t take very long for you to pay off the installation costs.
Environmental Factors
The reason that most people are interested in getting solar panels though is not for the money that they are going to make, although it is a sound investment now. Instead, they are interested in helping the planet by reducing the amount of fossil fuels that are burned.
At the moment there is relatively little energy that is produced around the world from renewable energy sources, but the small amount that is will still be making a difference. After all the energy that is produced in that way is energy that does not have to be produced by burning coal, oil or some other fossil fuel.
The problem with using fossil fuels of course is that they let off carbon dioxide when they are burned. And carbon dioxide, as everyone knows by now, is what is said to be the driving factor behind the global warming that we have been seeing. Everything we can do to prevent more energy being made in this way is therefore going to be helpful.
Even though it might not seem that one more home getting a solar panel installation is going to matter very much, it all makes a difference. Once enough people are using renewable energy there will be a significant reduction in the amount of carbon dioxide that we are producing every year.
Is It Worth Getting A Solar Installation?
With each new solar installation only making a minor difference, and with the cost being in the region of several thousand pounds, you have to ask whether it is worth it. That is a difficult question to answer, but if the initial outlay is affordable then you can be sure of making your money back. Also, though small, the environmental benefits will accumulate.
Before making the decision though it is best to get some expert advice in regard to your own situation. This will give you a clearer picture of whether or not it would be the right decision given your circumstances.
