The components of solar power systems are called solar panels, these panels will take the light from the sun and turn it into usable energy such as electricity for your home. These panels can usually been seen on the roofs of houses who have solar power.

What is A Solar Cell?

They are the main components that have been laid side by side on a solar panel. These solar cells are all connected to each other into a photovoltaic module, which is called solar panels. Electricity is generated through the photovoltaic effect that occurs when the sunlight hits the solar cells. The origins of this device can be traced to the year 1839 as E.Becqureel discovered this effect. Not many applications could be made of that discovery then, but in 1946 when R. Ohl invented the solar cell it came in very handy.

This type of panels is good for small systems where low power is needed, like charging batteries and electrifying fences. For bigger systems where there is a lot of sun, panels with 33 to 34 cells in series producing 16.5 to 17 volts are used. There are also panels with 35 to 36 cells in series having 17.5 to 21 volts. This type of cell works well in places with hot climates where high temperatures cause power loss.

Panels can be classified into concentrating type and non-concentrating type. In areas where there is much sunlight, concentrating type is used because this panel is angled to absorb direct sunlight. Otherwise, the non-concentrating type is used because it can absorb direct and reflected sunlight.

As far as the commercial side of things goes, you can purchase solar panels with 5 watts to 230 watts. For a home solar panel system, you may want to go for a panel that is higher in the wattage department. You can however, find cheaper solar panels with decent amounts of watts. For example, you can find a 72$ 60 watt unit, which is very reasonable. A higher end unit with 224 watts can be found for $666. The price of the panel will be based on the wattage.
