Solar energy is a green power source because it’s a renewable and it does not cause any harm to the environment. This is achieved by converting the sun’s rays into electricity with the help of solar cells.

There are 3 common ways as to how we can use this sort of green energy source: passive, active and also by utilizing photovoltaic cells.

When we refer to passive solar energy, there is nothing being converted. What happens is the building’s design will help avoid heat loss and gets the most from lighting by the sun during the daytime. Studies have demonstrated that this technique can reduce heating requirements by approximately 80% with minimal cost. Which means you don’t need to turn on the air conditioner or heater that often and if everyone does that, we don’t consume that much electricity which we get from non-renewable resources.

The 2nd approach active solar energy is the first means of converting sunlight into heat. You should know that there are actually particular limits to this one and all it can do is give you hot water.

The third approach is the big scale version and it can power an office or an entire home. This is done with the help of solar cells that convert sunlight into electricity. The smallest ones around can be seen in calculators and watches with large ones planted over huge acres of land.

The sole limitation to this green source of energy is the reason that it may only produce power when the climate is good and also the sun is out. Should it rain, then there’s nothing collected and converted. When this occurs, the auxiliary system is turned on till the climate improves.

Despite that, solar-powered cards have been actually created by both scientists and students. NASA (National Aeronautical Space Administration) has sent satellites into space that are powered by solar panels. A completely functional airport could work on its own thanks to solar power even though it’s situated in the middle of the frozen desert.

People can see the awesome power of solar energy. Did you know a kilowatt of solar energy can produce 5.5 hours of electricity each day? When you have more solar cells in place, you will be able to produce enough power to last several days.

Solar energy is only one sort of green source of energy around. Over the years, we have learned to tap other resources and these examples include wind power, geothermal energy, hydroelectricity and biogas. They are all safe and by utilizing these more often we do not have to depend on oil that is a non-renewable resource.

To make this happen, we need to persuade our law makers to promote the use of such resources. Even if you hear speeches left and right regarding their concern for the environment, it is all talk but not so much action. It really is something which has to change.

Conserving energy is on everyone’s mind today. It is imperative that we conserve natural resources as much as possible. The majority of people can’t make drastic changes such as completely remodeling their homes to make it more energy efficient but there are things that you can do to help conserve energy on a daily basis.

Simple tips for conserving energy at home:

When it’s time to replace appliances such as the refrigerator or washer and dryer buy the products that are designed to be energy efficient. In the meantime, keep your refrigerator set around 37 degrees and wash clothes with cold or warm water instead of hot.

Set the thermostat on your water heater at 120 degrees and make sure it is well insulated.

Take steps to winterize your home by sealing cracks with caulk and weather stripping. Make sure your home is properly insulated.

Avoid turning the heat up too high in the winter or keeping your home too cold in the summer. Try to set the thermostat somewhere around 70 degrees and leaving it there. Close off rooms that are not being used to help conserve energy.

Keep air filters clean and replace them often. This prevents the unit from overworking and reduces the energy it uses.

Replace all the light bulbs in your home with the energy efficient florescent light bulbs.

There are many ways that you can pitch in and do your part without spending a small fortune. Even the smallest change can make a big difference and help save on the earth’s natural resources.
